Why The Bench exists

The Bench is Brown Forces' training program. We built it because there is a gap between people who are curious about AI and people who can actually ship something with it. Most courses stop at concepts. The Bench does not.

**Who it's for**

Working people — teachers, barbers, small business owners, school staff, city workers, founders — who have a real problem in front of them and want to solve it. You do not need to be a developer. You need to be willing to try, break things, and come back the next day.

**What you do in it**

You pick a problem from your own work. You learn to pair with Claude as a partner. You build the thing. We sit next to you while you do it. The curriculum is short on lectures and long on shipping.

**Outcomes we care about**

A working tool you own at the end. A habit of solving your own problems with AI instead of waiting for someone else to build for you. A network of people doing the same.

Community impact is the point. When a teacher in a small district builds a screener that catches a kid who would have been missed — that matters more than any certificate. The Bench is how we make more of that happen.
