Xbox is killing physical discs. Goodbye, primos

Microsoft is moving Xbox games from physical discs to digital-only. The change is called Project Helix. It’s not out yet, but the plan is clear: no more plastic cases at the store. No more trading discs with your cousin. No more lending a game to a friend and having them return it with a scratch.

You’ll still be able to buy games. You’ll still be able to play them. But you’ll need an internet connection and a Microsoft account to make it happen. The disc drive? Going away.

This is a big shift for the comunidad. We buy games at the store. We share them. We trade them. We borrow them. We don’t just download things off the internet and forget about them. We have a relationship with the game. We hold it in our hands. We put it on the shelf.

Now that relationship is being erased. You’ll need to trust the platform. You’ll need to trust the account. You’ll need to trust the connection. If the server goes down, your game is gone. If you lose your account, your library is gone. If the internet cuts out, you can’t play.

This is not a small change. This is a cultural shift. We are losing something. We are losing the ability to share, to trade, to lend. We are losing the physical artifact. We are losing the community around the game.

Why this matters for us: When the platform owns your games, you own nothing — and that’s a problem for every familia, every cousin, every friend who used to share a disc and say "esto te toca."

“We lose the ability to share, to trade, to lend. We lose the physical artifact. We lose the community around the game.”
