Xbox is dumping your physical discs for a digital-only future
Microsoft is rolling out Project Helix, a feature that lets you trade in your plastic discs for digital licenses on Xbox. You pop the disc in, the console converts it, and the plastic goes back in the mail. Your game stays yours, just without the box.
This isn't just about shelf space. It's about shifting the entire Xbox library toward a model where the license lives in your account, not in the disc. You can play your old games from your old shelves, but the long game is digital.
For the comunidad, this matters because the people who buy discs, who trade them at swap meets, who hand a game to their abuelo — they're the ones getting told to make room. The plastic is still real. The cost is still the same. But the future is a cloud you can't hold.
Why this matters for us: when the industry moves to digital, the people with the least room — the abuelas with the stacks, the tías who buy used, the primos who trade — are the ones asked to adapt first.
“The future is a cloud you can't hold.”
