Weaviate goes managed — your data stays on your own infra
DigitalOcean just opened a public preview of Managed Weaviate. That means you can spin up a vector database without running it yourself. No more patching, no more scaling fights at 2 AM.
Weaviate is open-source. It runs on your own machine, your own VPS, your own DigitalOcean droplet. The managed version is just a hosted wrapper. You still own the data. You still control the keys.
This matters because vector databases are how apps do AI search now. RAG pipelines. Recommendation engines. Knowledge bases for your side project. And most managed vector DBs lock you into their cloud. You upload your data and it lives on their servers.
This one doesn't. You pick the region. You pick the size. You pick the disk. You pay for what you use.
The preview is public now. You can sign up and try it. No waitlist. No gate.
Why this matters for us: when you're building apps for your comunidad — a clinic booking tool, a community resource directory, a bilingual search — you don't want your data sitting on some Silicon Valley company's servers. This keeps it on your own infra, on your own terms.
“You pick the region. You pick the size. You pick the disk. You pay for what you use.”
