Walmart finally accepts Apple Pay and Google Pay

Walmart is joining the rest of the world and will accept Apple Pay and Google Pay at select stores starting August 24. The tap-to-pay rollout hits all US stores by the end of 2026 and gas stations by mid-2027.

This has been a long wait. Walmart was one of the last big retailers not to support Apple Pay or Google Pay, and went its own way for years — backing the short-lived CurrentC before launching Walmart Pay in 2016, a QR code app that lived inside the Walmart app. Now the company is finally letting you use whatever wallet is already on your phone.

Why this matters for us: Walmart is where a lot of la gente shop, and having your phone be the wallet instead of a QR code or a card is one less thing to carry and one less app to open.

One less app to open.
