The SaaS grind is breaking — and founders are trying to patch it with AI

A new post from the TLDR crew lays out what's been obvious to anyone running a small software company: the SaaS model is grinding against its own weight. You're paying for a dozen tools — analytics, CRM, support, billing, docs — and every one of them wants you to log in, learn a new interface, and set up integrations. The margins get eaten by the bloat.

The fix people are reaching for is AI agents that can talk to your tools and do the work for you — routing support tickets, writing docs, nudging customers. It's a real itch, and the tools are getting better fast. But the same forces that made SaaS bloated in the first place — more features, more integrations, more moving parts — are the ones making the AI layer complex to manage.

The interesting question isn't whether AI agents will replace SaaS tools. It's whether the next wave of software will be built around conversational interfaces instead of dashboards, and whether the companies that win are the ones who own the integrations or the ones who own the user's attention.

Why this matters for us: la gente running small shops are the ones feeling the bloat first, and the next shift in how software works will either cut their costs or add another tool to the stack they can't afford.

The bloat that killed SaaS margins is the same thing making the AI layer hard to manage.
