Tech Twitter is too online — and it's making everyone dumber

Tech Twitter has been quietly rotting since 2023. The people who actually built things — engineers, operators, people who ship — left or stopped posting. What's left are the people who get paid for talking about things. The signal-to-noise ratio has flipped.

The result is a feedback loop: the loudest voices are the ones with the most followers, so they get invited to podcasts and panels, so they get more followers, so they get louder. Meanwhile the people who actually know something are either silent or being drowned out by someone who read one article and wrote a thread.

The writers at TLDR are calling it out. They're saying the platform has become a hall of mirrors where everyone is arguing with each other about things nobody outside the room cares about. The people who built the stuff you actually use are no longer on it.

Why this matters for us: if the only people talking about tech are the ones getting paid to talk, then the stories we hear aren't what's happening — they're what the platform rewards, and that's a different thing entirely.
