Takeoff goes long — and Sierra buys it
Sierra has acquired Takeoff, the startup behind the Takeoff agent framework. The company has been quietly building something different from the rest of the agent crowd: long-horizon agents that plan and execute over hours or days rather than a single turn. The Takeoff agents write their own code, run it, read the output, and keep going — no human in the loop, no handoffs.
The deal is the kind that makes sense for Sierra. The company has been laying out a platform for autonomous agents to run and scale, and Takeoff's long-horizon capability slots right in. It's the difference between an agent that answers a question and an agent that gets the job done.
What's worth noticing is the timing. Long-horizon agents are one of the few areas where the frontier models are actually improving the product, not just the headline. Opus 4.6 already hits a 14.5-hour task horizon; Takeoff is the framework that turns that capability into a product. Sierra buying them is a bet that this is the durable pattern, not a passing fad.
Why this matters for us: the tools getting built for autonomous agents will eventually be the tools we use — whether we're running a side business, managing the laundromat, or just trying to get things done without talking to a chatbot for an hour.
