Sony says next PlayStation won't just live in the living room
Sony is talking big about the next PlayStation. In a recent investor Q&A, the company hinted its next console will offer a way to play games outside the living room.
The question was blunt: how do you bring back players who jumped to gaming PCs during the pandemic?
Sony’s answer? They’re moving beyond the couch. The exact details are sparse, but the direction is clear — the next PlayStation will be a portable experience.
This isn’t a total surprise. Sony already lets you stream PlayStation games on mobile devices. The rumored handheld, codenamed “Project Q,” is a recent addition to that lineup.
The handheld is the obvious bet here. But Sony’s language is intentionally vague. They’re not promising a specific device. They’re promising a shift in where PlayStation lives.
The living room has been the brand’s identity for decades. That’s the anchor. But the anchor’s moving.
For the comunidad, this is a big deal. Gaming is a huge part of our culture. The PlayStation 2 was the box in every abuela’s house. The PS4 was the console that connected us during lockdowns when the rest of the world shut down.
If the next PlayStation is truly portable, it means we can game on the go — on the bus, at the family gathering, at the cousin’s birthday party. No more hauling the whole rig to the tía’s house.
Sony hasn’t given us a release date. Or a price. Or a name. They’re teasing.
But the message is loud enough: the PlayStation is leaving the living room.
Why this matters for us: Gaming is a cornerstone of our community, and a portable PlayStation means we’re not tied to a TV anymore — we take the game with us wherever la gente gathers.
