Ponytail: a tiny Rust CLI for your terminal

TLDR dropped a note about a project called Ponytail, built by Dietrich Gebert. It's a small Rust command-line tool for the terminal.

The project is hosted on GitHub and was featured on the TLDR newsletter. TLDR is a daily tech roundup for developers and engineers. The newsletter is free and gets read by a lot of people in tech.

Ponytail itself is described as tiny. That usually means it's fast and doesn't eat up your CPU. It's written in Rust, which means it's meant to be reliable and efficient. It's a CLI tool, so it lives in the terminal where a lot of us spend our day.

There's not much else in the source right now. It's a link to the repo with a one-line description. That's all we have to work with. So we'll keep it short.

The repo link is https://github.com/DietrichGebert/ponytail. If you want to see what it actually does, that's where you go.

Why this matters for us: the tools we use in our own terminals matter, and a fast, small CLI like Ponytail is the kind of thing that makes the day go smoother when you're grinding through scripts and deployments.
