Oura ring lawsuit: sleep tracking claims called out
A group of consumers is suing Oura, claiming the ring's sleep tracking doesn't actually measure what it says it does. The lawsuit argues the device can't reliably measure the physiological signals needed to assess sleep quality or determine sleep stages — the very metrics the company has built its reputation on.
This isn't the first time wearable companies have been called out for overclaiming. Sleep tracking is one of the hardest things to measure with consumer sensors, and Oura's been marketing sleep scores and stages as if they're medical-grade. The suit puts that on the table legally now, and it could change how the whole category gets sold.
Why this matters for us: la gente is buying these rings expecting real health data — if the numbers are fiction, the whole trust in the category takes a hit.
“The ring can't measure the signals it says it does. That's the whole story.”
