Netflix invented binge-watching. Now it may have outgrown it

Netflix built its empire on one idea: make it easy to watch one more episode. Binge-watching wasn't just a habit. It was a product feature.

Now the company is asking if it's outgrown the model. The question isn't whether people still want to watch TV. It's whether the binge format is still the right way to deliver it.

This isn't a crisis. It's a pivot. And it's happening at a time when attention is the scarcest thing in the room.

For the rest of us, it's a reminder that the platforms we use to unwind are still trying to figure out what we actually want. They're not done building the thing that fits our lives. They're still testing.

Why this matters for us:
When the biggest streaming service stops assuming we'll watch six hours straight, it's a signal that the whole entertainment economy is recalibrating — and that means new ways to make money, new ways to work in content, and new ways to show up for our communities that aren't just another screen in a dark room.
