Meta's always-on smart glasses: the future of recording everything

Meta is toying with the idea of smart glasses that record everything, all the time.

That's the headline. The detail is thinner. Gizmodo reports Meta is exploring the concept. They haven't built it. They haven't shipped it. They're toying with it.

Still. The implication lands heavy.

Glasses that see what you see. That capture what you capture. That never stop recording. Not because you ask them to. Because they can.

Let's be clear: this isn't a product. It's a direction. And directions are how companies test whether the public will flinch before they launch.

The tech is already here. Cameras in glasses. Tiny batteries. Always-on sensors. The hardware isn't the barrier. The barrier is what happens to the footage. Who stores it. Who sells it. Who gets to watch it.

And the real question, the one nobody's asking yet:

If a pair of glasses is always recording, who owns the image of the stranger walking past you on the block? The person wearing the glasses? The company that made them? The algorithm that flags it?

This is the cousin who runs a side business selling cameras. He knows the tech. He also knows how fast it spreads once it's cheap enough.

Why this matters for us:
When the people holding the cameras are the ones buying them, la gente becomes the content — and the content gets sold to the highest bidder, whether we asked for it or not.

“The barrier isn't the hardware. It's what happens to the footage.”
