Meta backs down on the $20 monthly for glasses audio
Meta planned to charge $20 a month for Conversation Focus — the feature that lets the glasses amplify voices in noisy rooms. It runs entirely on the device; no cloud, no server. Still, the company wanted a subscription.
The backlash landed, and Meta paused the charge. Spokesperson Tyler Yee confirmed it to The Verge: the feature stays free through the Early Access Program for now. Premium features will still move to subscription over time — this one just isn't the first.
Why this matters for us:
When a company tries to nickel-and-dime an accessibility tool, the community pushes back — and Meta listens. That's how these things get handled.
“It runs on the glasses. No cloud needed. Meta still wanted $20 a month.”
