Google's Pixel Tag — a rival to Apple's AirTag, finally coming

Google is apparently cooking up its own item tracker called the Pixel Tag — a little oval you clip to keys, the tool box, or the la maleta. 9to5Google snagged a photo of the thing and found a Slovenian store listing that calls it an item tracker with a built-in speaker, talking to Google's Find Hub network. That's the same network Apple uses for AirTags, only for Pixel and Android.

It's arriving right before Google's August 12 hardware event, where the Pixel 11 lineup is already on deck alongside a foldable, a smartwatch, and some earbuds. A Pixel Tag at that event would be a natural fit — the kind of small, $29-49 gadget that makes a Pixel owner actually use Find Hub for once.

AirTags work great and the community bought them by the millions. But Google's network has been quietly growing. If the Pixel Tag ships with a decent battery and a loud enough speaker, it finally gives a lot of Android users a real alternative to Apple's tracker.

Why this matters for us: la gente who carry lots of small things — the tías with their keys, the primos hauling toolboxes, the abuelo with his wallet — now has a cheap tracker that talks to the phones they already own.
