Fox buys Roku for $22B to push streaming ads forward

Fox is buying Roku for $22 billion. The deal gives Fox a direct line into one of the largest streaming audiences in the country, with Roku's advertising business growing fast.

The streaming ad market has been heating up. Netflix, Amazon, Disney — they've all been building ad-supported tiers and trying to pull dollars away from traditional cable. Fox's move is a bet that ad money will keep flowing into streaming faster than anyone expected.

Why this matters for us: The people watching streaming at home — the Brown families, the Black families, the working folks who cut the cord years ago — are the ones advertisers want. If Fox and Roku keep growing, the ads we see on our screens will come from companies trying to reach us directly.

We stopped watching cable years ago. The ads are still finding us.
