Foldables and flip phones are finally catching up

Google Zero landed this week — the Pixel 11 with a hinge — and it's one of the best foldables yet. The crease is barely there, the hinge feels solid, and the software actually adapts to the folded shape instead of fighting it. Meanwhile, Samsung's new Z Fold 8 and Z Flip 6 sharpened the lineup, and the X4 Lite flips back with a 50MP camera and a 5,000 mAh battery in a frame you can actually carry. The hinge on the Lite is the one to watch — quiet, with no wobble after a week of testing.

What changed: the crease problem, which made early foldables look cheap and feel worse, is mostly gone now. Samsung and Google stopped chasing the thinnest possible hinge and built the ones that last. That matters because the hinge is what breaks first. The rest of the phone is fine; the hinge is the weak link, and these new ones are built for it.
