FL Studio’s head goes to Reddit for ideas — and laughs
If you made beats in the 2000s, you probably once dabbled with a pirated copy of Fruity Loops. Now it’s called FL Studio. Constantin Koehncke is the man steering it.
Koehncke is CEO of Image Line. He took the reins in 2022. Before that, he was head of Native Instruments, where he pushed the company toward digital services and did a stint in marketing.
The company is rolling out AI features. There’s stem separation, which lets you pull vocals out of a track. There’s Gopher, a chatbot built into the software.
But Koehncke isn’t just pushing features from the top. He’s gone to Reddit for feedback. He’s reading comments. He’s looking for what people actually want.
That’s not a boardroom strategy. That’s a cousin asking the group chat what song to add to the playlist.
The Verge has a long interview with him. He talks about the company’s roots, the shift to digital, and why he cares what the community says.
FL Studio has always been a tool for people who don’t have a studio. For kids with laptops. For producers in garages. That’s still the vibe.
Koehncke knows it. He’s not treating the app like a corporate product. He’s treating it like a shared instrument. And he’s listening to the people who actually use it.
Why this matters for us: When a tool built by the comunidad gets AI features, it better not leave the people who made it famous behind. Koehncke going to Reddit is a sign he gets that. We need more CEOs who read the comments instead of just the spreadsheets.
