Figure AI drops Index — an open model for robots
Figure is rolling out Index, a 32-billion parameter open-source model that runs on their own hardware. It's part of the F1 robot line — the thing you've seen walking around factories and doing chores on YouTube.
The model is licensed under Apache 2.0 and ships with weights, fine-tuning code, and a dataset. Figure says they'll keep adding capabilities over time. The whole stack is meant to be usable by anyone who wants to build robots that actually move and manipulate things.
Why this matters for us: open models for robots mean the people building for our shops, warehouses, and kitchens aren't locked into one company's proprietary system.
“Open weights for robots is the move — no vendor lock-in, just hardware that moves.”
