DuckDB 1.5.4 is out

DuckDB just shipped version 1.5.4. If you know DuckDB, you know the deal — it's the in-memory analytical database that lets you run SQL queries fast without setting up a whole server. Think of it as the tool that sits between your CSV files and your data warehouse.

This release tightens the screws on performance, compatibility, and the kind of friction that makes data teams move slower than they should. The TLDR Data write-up frames it around the gaps between people who build data pipelines and people who use them — engineers, analysts, the folks who actually need the numbers.

DuckDB has been steadily eating into the space where you used to need a heavyweight database or a managed cloud service. Version 1.5.4 is part of that grind: new features, fewer headaches, more speed for less setup.

Why this matters for us: the tools shaping how data gets analyzed are quietly becoming the tools that shape how companies make decisions — and the faster those tools get, the faster decisions move for the people who depend on them.

The gaps between data teams are the gaps between building the pipeline and using it.
