Cognition launches Agent — hands-free coding that works on the desktop

Cognition just shipped Agent 2, the next version of its hands-free coding agent that lives in your desktop app. You tell it what you need in natural language and it plans, writes code, opens files, runs tests, and fixes errors without you touching the keyboard.

The old Agent was a proof of concept. This one is a real product — it ships as a desktop app you install, not a web widget. The interface is a text box at the top of the window; everything else happens inside your terminal, editor, and browser windows as it works. It's the kind of thing that makes the cousin with a side hustle in web dev finally have an edge, or lets the dev who's been drowning in tickets stop spinning their wheels.

Why this matters for us: the tools that let one person do the work of three are coming fast — and the ones that actually run on your machine, not some cloud dashboard, are the ones we'll be able to afford and use without handing over our data to some Silicon Valley landlord.
