Apple's new Handoff lets two iPhones share one number

iOS 27 adds a feature called iPhone Handoff. You pair two iPhones — one as main, one as companion — and the system routes calls and messages between them using a single number. The setup runs inside Xcode 27's Device Hub.

The timing lines up with the rumored foldable iPhone Ultra, which people may not want to tote around all day. Apple is giving you a way to split the difference: the big device stays home, the smaller one rides with you, and you don't lose the number.

Why this matters for us: for folks juggling work and personal lines, or anyone who can't justify a $1,500 phone for the day-to-day, this is a practical way to share a number without the cost.

One number, two phones — the big device stays home, the little one rides with you.
